Being new to blogging (don't tell anyone!) I obviously wanted to ensure my message gets to the right audience. Social media 101, right? Getting my message to the correct audience however is only one of the considerations a blogger should take into account.
Depending on the nature of the blogs and the exact target audience, the times and days you post is also quite important.
Thanks to Dan Zarrella, the social media scientist, I was able to determine the best times to post blogs, tweet and share on facebook.
Turns out that using social media to get a message across is much like getting your husband to wash the dishes.... If you're going to ask for something when he is not focused on you and when you haven't contributed something positive to the exchange it's like posting a blog about yourself for yourself and telling everyone its about yourself for yourself... See where I am going with this?
Below I have shared some insights I've gained over the last month.
Blog posts shared during normal work hours, gets more traffic, comments and engagement, but because of the high volume of content available during those hours, your post may be lost in the noise.
At the same time, posting after hours gets your post more prominence and promotion but far less visitors and traffic.
Blog posts receives most views (clicks) on Mondays and regardless of which day, 11am is the peak time readers visit blog posts.
The engagement rate increases on a Saturday around 9am.
The average blog gets the most incoming links on Mondays and Thursdays around 7am
Based on the information gathered, posting my blog on a Tuesday simply means my audience is not getting the message I'm sharing. Studies have thus convinced me to rather update my blog on Monday mornings.
With a Monday being the start of the work week, my audience is more likely to need some inspirational reading to get them into work mode. Seeing that the aim of my blog is to share my feelings, insight and experience in how your workplace environment should lead to employee satisfaction, my target audience should be reached at the best time and most suitable frame of mind.
So let me know if I am correct ;)
